Eklavya remains in a self-imposed time wrap. With the passage of time, his marksmanship becomes the stuff of legends, and his unflinching loyalty inspires ballads. The arrival of Prince Harshwardhan (Saif Ali Khan), for the deceased Queen's (Sharmila Tagore) funeral rites brings solace to Eklavya. Harshwardhan is barely tolerant towards the suffocating customs of his land but he feels a strange affection for the aging bodyguard and his eccentricities. But the fragile peace of the land is shattered by bullets. The bloodshed, which ensues engulfs the life of both Eklavya and the Prince. What follows is a contemporary edge-of-the-seat thriller with characters such as the irreverent police officer Pannalal Chauhar (Sanjay Dutt), the king's wily younger brother (Jackie Shroff), his murderous son (Jimmy Sheirgill), the mentally challenged princess (Raima Sen) and the prince's first love, Rajjo (Vidya Balan).

Poonam was blossoming into a beautiful and radiant young woman embellished with all the right virtues one could ask for. Her simple and affectionate demeanour touches the heart of Bhagatji (Manoj Joshi), who plays our matchmaker. He takes Poonam's marriage proposal to Mr. Harish Chandra (Anupam Kher), a renowned and well-to-do New Delhi businessman, for his son Prem (Shahid Kapoor).
Prem is the soft spoken, charming and well-educated young scion of one of New Delhi's most prominent business families. In spite of being brought up in the fast city life of New Delhi, Prem is rooted to the ground and has retained his family's traditional values and upbringing. It is these qualities that make him stand out in today's day and age. When his father takes his opinion on the proposition, Prem is initially taken aback and feels he is too young for marriage and needs to focus on his career first. But being open-minded and respectful to his father's wish, Prem agrees to meet Poonam, know her better and then take a decision.
What follows is a 'meeting' arranged by the two families. Prem and Poonam are suddenly in the midst of a situation they have never been in before. What starts off as an awkward, formal exchange of words, grows into a deeper, meaningful conversation. Prem and Poonam discover their soul mate in each other. They are engaged to be married in six months.
They go through the most magical and romantic period of their lives. Both realize the importance of the engagement rings that they have given to each other and the special right that they have got on each other in return. Coming from different sensibilities, both want their relationship to be very right for each other. Six months fly by and just when Prem and Poonam are on the verge of exchanging marriage vows... a crisis puts the love of Prem and Poonam through a trial by fire.
