Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will come out of retirement and make a sensational return to Formula 1 competition as a replacement for Ferrari’s injured driver Felipe Massa, starting at the next race in Valencia on August 23.
After two days of feverish speculation in which rumours and denials vied for media attention, Ferrari confirmed that Schumacher will indeed stand in for Massa while the Brazilian driver recovers from head injuries suffered in his Hungaroring accident.
“Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to entrust Michael Schumacher with Felipe Massa’s car for as long as the Brazilian driver is not able to race,” the team said in a statement.
Schumacher, the most successful F1 driver of all time, retired from the sport at the end of 2006, when he narrowly failed to claim an eighth title after a tight duel with Renault’s Fernando Alonso.
He has subsequently tested Ferrari’s F1 cars on several occasions, but has not done so in 15 months and has yet to drive the Maranello squad’s 2009 challenger.
With F1 subject to an in-season testing ban this year, he won’t have the opportunity to sample the F60 on a race track until practice gets underway in Valencia, although he will be able to familiarise himself with the car in straight-line tests.

The good thing for schumi is that he has got 4 weeks break before the Valencia GP. He has got enough time on hand to prepare for the race. But it is true that due to in season testing ban he will not be able to drive F60 on track. but he was their technical consultant during F60 development so IMO he knows the car and he is not a n00b who need zillion laps to get hang of the car or track. So come Valencia Free Prac (on Friday) he will be able to match the likes of Kimi and that arrogant prick looish hamilton

That will be very hard for ferrari this season. Their car is not as good as it used to be. but one thing is for sure, with shumacher as a driver the car will improve a lot in next few races..so i m hoping after spa ferrari will be constantly on podium..

Now it seems Schumi is staging a comeback with Mercedes!!
It seems so as per Luca di Montezemolo. He claims that he talked to Schumi on wednesday...And schumi told him that he is considering a comeback next year with Mercedes GP. Ross Brawn is the Boss of Mercedes, with whom he made a great team during his WDC winning years...
Mercedes needs someone to build a car and there in no one better then schumi in the world...
If he joins Mercedes It would be called a royal team :D
Schumi 'The King' and Nico Roseberg 'The queen' :D

It's official: Schumacher returns to F1
Seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher is back.
The motor-racing legend has signed a one-year contract to drive in 2010 with Mercedes GP, ending three years in retirement.
The announcement comes 11 days ahead of Schumacher's 41st birthday on January 3, easily making him the oldest driver in next year's championship.
Schumacher said: "The motivation is pretty straightforward. I got a call from Ross (Brawn, team principal) at the beginning of November asking me to race again, telling me Mercedes were going to be involved.
"I've never left the race track, and after three years I regained the energy I'm feeling now.
"After playing around on motorbikes, I'm ready for the serious stuff."
Schumacher was poised to make a comeback with Ferrari in the summer to fill in for the injured Felipe Massa, but had to back out because of a neck injury which he now insists is not a problem.
"Before giving the final okay, I had to make sure my neck was okay," he said.
"It wasn't okay in the summer, but it's had the time to heal completely."
