The thieves managed to sneak into the house of a wealthy trader (Lalla)in the midnight. But unfortunately, they found nothing worth stealing. Then they came out in the courtyard where they saw a milch buffalo tied up to a pipe (khoota)

One of them said, “It is insulting for us to go back empty-handed from a wealthy Lalla’s house. Let us take this buffalo with us – we would get some money by selling it.”

They stole the Lalla’s buffalo and to fill the vacuum, caught a male buffalo (jhota) which was found wandering freely in the village. This jhota was tied up with the same pipe.

As a daily routine, Lalla’s daughter was duty-bound to milk the buffalo at 4.00 a.m. On that day too in the morning darkness (not knowing that their buffalo had been stolen and actually a male buffalo was standing in front of her), holding a bucket in her left hand, she pushed her right hand for washing the nipples (which is normally done prior to milking). On finding the four nipples missing, she loudly called her mother:

“Mother, come running – hurry up, all the four nipples of the buffalo have jammed up and there is just one very thick nipple (motta sa thunn).
