Thirty miles west of the Taj Mahal, on the road to the pink city of Jaipur, tourists on buses pass a sight that the guide books rarely mention.

A mile beyond the town of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, where the highway is being widened to four lanes, traffic slows down for roadworks. But the workmen who lounge by their bulldozers have their eyes on something else - a cluster of makeshift shelters where girls, several under 18 and at least two younger than 15, can be seen strolling or sitting, in view of the dusty carriageway.

This is a really sad situation. At an age when they should be playing and going to school they are made to sell their bodies.

it's very sad that this filthy trade has been adopted as a way of earning by some tribes. few weeks ago, I was reading a book by Will Durant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Durant) - " The Case For India (http://www.thehindu.com/2007/12/17/stories/2007121760990400.htm)" . I feel that the situations in those yester years have forced these people to adopt such a heinous tradition.... but what we are doing now to stop such things ...?
