Fundooz,

There seems be this commotion of late on FZ about SK and what she considers some off color remarks/posts/threads about her. Though this has already once been an issue before forcing to one of the Admins of the site to speak out, even against one of the moderators, no less. I would like to present some thoughts and facts in light of and using MBBC's recent very aptly debated comments (http://www.fundoozone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=79028&postcount=25).

Let's not look at this as me defending SK, because believe me, I'm not doing that. But I'll say this:

I agree 100% that it's the 'online characters' that we love, hate, or tease; and I especially advocate a broader issue that in this modern world of Men-Women Equality, where women are adamant that they be treated same as men, why men have to walk on fire saying something to women, whereas, anything we say to fellow men could be laughed off? And I believe that when you're a part of an online community where everything/everyone is a fair game, you've gotta learn to take jokes in right spirit despite of your actual identity/thoughts.

But, having said all this, there's flip side of this coin - A more diplomatic stance on the matter, if you will.

One - is that when something is not as clear-cut as Sun rising in East, you have opinions; and when you have opinions and it differs with someone else, a true diplomat has no choice but to respect the others' opinion, even though he/she personally doesn't agree. Case in point is SK. Even though many people do not agree with SK's opinion and attitude, SK's opinion is just that - an opinion, which should be respected in its own right.

Other and most importantly – is an insight on why she might have such an intolerant stance. You see, many of us admit that we're just interested in having some fun with the 'character' and not violate someone's actual identity. But not everyone is as understanding. Though, this is a very well mannered community, there are/were/will be some shady characters here, would you agree?

Fact - is that there had been reports before of multiple different members harassing SK not only in Chatterbox or Threads, but also vulgar and sexual harassment on her email and PMs (and possibly more before I was active on GM/GH and now FZ towards other female members). And it is hard for someone who's been harassed before to trust someone new on the forum. But I am sure like everyone else with good intentions; new members will eventually filters themselves through and will gain the benefit of the doubt too.

That's why Admins of this site (rightfully so) are adamant about monitoring harassing behaviors (potential or real) just to avoid members taking too much liberty against vulnerable members, and cross a fine line between fun and harassment. Because let's admit it, no matter how much we like to equalize, us men on this public forums don't get vulgar and sexual harassment on our emails and PMs, do we?

:)

Online or not, we must follow a simple rule : Respect other members.
We should just follow this and see how this community prospers.

Nicely said, I think its all about respecting and being respected. Yes there are some members who are more comfortable in the pun and the fun and they take it sportingly. Not true with every member. Thats when what GA said comes into light, just respect the member and when you have gained the respect you can poke fun.

SK is offended and rightly so if someone is here to be a part of the community and wants to read and share jokes ends up getting vulgar PM messages.

We should be very careful in crossing that thin like, and remember its not always 'What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander'.

We are all mature enough to make our decisions and us admins and modz will make sure that no one crosses the line and becomes vulgar.

Moral of the story just follow - netiquettes

I agree with all of you. If you expect respect you have to give it first. I am a new member here but I have been on other forums, what attracted me to this forum is the quality of jokes and funny comments.

I have always believed in taking care in what I say. If I am not comfortable with someone I wont make fun of that person. Posting something funny is altogether different from making fun of other.

I love this forum and hope to make more new friends.

Cheers to FZ :thumbup::thumbup:

I think on one hand you guys are talking about respect on the other you still have BBR isn't it conflicting????
The good thing is the thread is closed if a female member has repeated the thread and we do appriciate that.
As I have seen you guys behave like desperados when you see any new female nick on the forum.Even the moderators do that. As you say it is just for fun but you are scaring that member away. No one would like to be made fun of and women are more sensitive. So before you actually start commenting on her post please keep them pleasant. In your real life you do keep that in mind isn't it?? I am sure most of you won't talk with the girl the way you do among guys. so why do you find it hard to do it here. Even now when I start a thread I do request you guys not to screw up my thread??? Why do i still have to say that???

Like SK has suggested to have something for the ladies why not have a seprate corner for them. (But knowing you all i am afraid all men will come to that corner under female nicks :D )

Sunshineji with all due respect I cannot agree with you totally even though I think most of the points you have brought up are valid.
I disagree with you that the BBR aspect is conflicting, BBR is in place to discourage members from posting repeats (though some members are rather encouraged to post repeats because of BBR :D) Though sometimes the comments do go out of hand but as far as the female members are concerned (or atleast who claim to be :))as you mention the thread is closed to prevent members from posting further comments.

Another aspect where I beg to differ is that Fundoozone is a pure humor forum where members logon to have fun so am not in favor of introducing Agony Aunt section. Though I think it would not be bad to have sections catering to the fairer sex but as long as it has something to do with humor and we are allowed to participate to bring a different perspective .

I do agree that there should be a code of conduct for members so as not to bring disrepute to this excellent community.

Again this is purely my point of view and if I have hurt anyones sentiments then I apologize.
