Fundooz,
There seems be this commotion of late on FZ about SK and what she considers some off color remarks/posts/threads about her. Though this has already once been an issue before forcing to one of the Admins of the site to speak out, even against one of the moderators, no less. I would like to present some thoughts and facts in light of and using MBBC's recent very aptly debated comments (http://www.fundoozone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=79028&postcount=25).
Let's not look at this as me defending SK, because believe me, I'm not doing that. But I'll say this:
I agree 100% that it's the 'online characters' that we love, hate, or tease; and I especially advocate a broader issue that in this modern world of Men-Women Equality, where women are adamant that they be treated same as men, why men have to walk on fire saying something to women, whereas, anything we say to fellow men could be laughed off? And I believe that when you're a part of an online community where everything/everyone is a fair game, you've gotta learn to take jokes in right spirit despite of your actual identity/thoughts.
But, having said all this, there's flip side of this coin - A more diplomatic stance on the matter, if you will.
One - is that when something is not as clear-cut as Sun rising in East, you have opinions; and when you have opinions and it differs with someone else, a true diplomat has no choice but to respect the others' opinion, even though he/she personally doesn't agree. Case in point is SK. Even though many people do not agree with SK's opinion and attitude, SK's opinion is just that - an opinion, which should be respected in its own right.
Other and most importantly – is an insight on why she might have such an intolerant stance. You see, many of us admit that we're just interested in having some fun with the 'character' and not violate someone's actual identity. But not everyone is as understanding. Though, this is a very well mannered community, there are/were/will be some shady characters here, would you agree?
Fact - is that there had been reports before of multiple different members harassing SK not only in Chatterbox or Threads, but also vulgar and sexual harassment on her email and PMs (and possibly more before I was active on GM/GH and now FZ towards other female members). And it is hard for someone who's been harassed before to trust someone new on the forum. But I am sure like everyone else with good intentions; new members will eventually filters themselves through and will gain the benefit of the doubt too.
That's why Admins of this site (rightfully so) are adamant about monitoring harassing behaviors (potential or real) just to avoid members taking too much liberty against vulnerable members, and cross a fine line between fun and harassment. Because let's admit it, no matter how much we like to equalize, us men on this public forums don't get vulgar and sexual harassment on our emails and PMs, do we?
:)
