2007 - APNA AASMAN
Ravi (Khan) and Padmini (Shobhana) are happily married couple.Ravi is a wage earner who works in the field of plastics - a kind of metaphor that runs through the film whereas his wife gives up her early promise as a classical dancer in order to settle into marriage, which is threatened when their only son (buddhi) turns out to be autistic.Padmini blames Ravi for the child’s mental state because he had dropped him when Buddhi was small.Buddhi is a retarded teenager with a flair for painting.Ravi and Padmini share a strained relation ship due to their teenage son’s Buddhi’s intellectual handicap.Buddhi, a mildly autistic slow learner displays his flair for art but his parents dont encourage or recognise because of their middle class in securities.Padmini who was a gold medallist herself wants him to be good at mathematics.
Seeing her son is not like other normal children, she takes him to temples, churches and babas, hoping for a miracle.Meanwhile, Dr Satya (Anupam Kher, who has done a lot of research on the subject, discovers a drug named brain-booster that can make Budhhi a genius..So, Ravi meets up with the doctor and makes Buddhi take it. But the brain-booster has its side effects — one of them being amnesia.
Initially Ravi hesitates to inject the drug but one night he is provoked by Padmini to inject Budhhi with the brain booster.Although the immediate reaction after the injection seemed as if Budhhi was going to die but slowly he recovered and emerges as a new born son.The drug changes Buddhi, and he suddenly becomes a very good mathematician, faster than a computer. But he forgets his parents in the bargain.Now the parents begin to encounter the darker aspects of their dream, which they haven’t thought of…
