This was totally unforeseen, wouldn't you say? What do you guys think? I think there's more to "I want to concentrate on my batting" claim by Dravid. I can't find it yet, but I'll find a link when somebody on cricinfo had given stats about how Dravid's batting average is better as a captain in both forms of the game.

I smell something fishy, don't you guys?

Rahul Dravid has resigned as India captain with immediate effect. In a letter written to the Indian board, he has asked to be relieved of the captaincy before Australia's forthcoming tour of India, beginning later this month.

"I enjoyed the captaincy, I loved it, but it can get tough after a while and some of the enjoyment can go away," Dravid told BBC. "So I thought it was the right time to step aside.''

I always thot RD was a misfit in that position. Lone nice guy amongst all the bureaucrats struggling to find his way through the system.

Sachin: naah... captaincy always looked like a burden on him.

Dhoni: I thot they were kidding! Cant imagine MSD calling the shots in the presence of Sachin/Dada/RD. And how is the poor jharkhandi gonna deal with that snake-pit called bcci??

Dada: well under the circumstances and looking at what happened to RD, he is the best of the lot...

I think RD was the only ray of hope if we looked for a person capable of turning the Indian team into a professional outfit albeit with some help. Now if he thinks its a distant dream then it probably is one!

Sad...

Rugby world cup is on currently. What a stark contrast I must say. Picture perfect is the word, atleast till now... No wonder its the 2nd most watched sporting event after fifa.

Very well summed DW...

Left out one important piece of the puzzle, though: Yuvraj Singh.

He looks to be the only sane choice left, even though I think it would've been a better move if he'd been given another year or so to act as a deputy of a senior (the keyword here is "senior", not as a deputy of MSD or others "junior" players) captain.
