No Class

Two ints and a Float in a bar. They spot an attractive Double on her own. The first int walks up to her. "Hey, baby", he says, "my VM or yours". She slaps him and he walks back dejected.

The second int walks over. "Hey, cute-stuff, can I cook you Beans for breakfast". After a quick slapping, he too walks back.

The Float then ambles over casually. "Were those two primitive types bothering you?", he remarks.

"Yes. I'm so glad you're here", she says. "They just had no Class!"

Everything in Java is a class except primitive types which are data types like byte, short, int, long, float, double, boolean and char. This was the way in which the language was designed. At a later stage it was felt that it would be benificial to create data types that would actually be classes and hence utilize all benefits of Object Oriented paradigm. So they created new classes to represent these data types and added some new ones as well and named them BigDecimal, BigInteger, Byte, Double, Float, Integer, Long, Boolean and Short. Notice that they all start with an uppercase letter as is the case with every class.

Now coming back to the joke the players were

2 ints (both are primitive datatypes)
1 Float(OO so has a class)
1 Double(OO so has a class)

So when Double was approached by the 2 ints she rejected them because they had no class (pun intended).
